After dropping the kids at school I diligently continued my job search at the library. After school I collected Sophie while Hayden went on a play date with Oscar. Sophie and I completed her homework and played tennis - very poorly!

Much the same as yesterday, without the appalling tennis!

A day off so I planned to drop Kenny Koala off in a geocache, ready for him to start his mission.
Cache #1
I prepared Kenny for his imminent departure, taking a photograph for his page but when I found the cache hidden at a busy junction, inside the bag of a statue, it was a small film canister so Kenny wouldn't fit!

Cache #1
I prepared Kenny for his imminent departure, taking a photograph for his page but when I found the cache hidden at a busy junction, inside the bag of a statue, it was a small film canister so Kenny wouldn't fit!
Cache #2
This cache took a good hunt around the ramp and bike path where the pedestrian bottle neck had occurred after the dawn service on Anzac Day. The clues were clear and although I was almost defeated, a determination to succeed ensured that I found a thin, magnetic cache underneath the end of a railing.
Cache #3
This cache took me to Esplanade station, where we'd taken the train the day we went to the zoo. This geocaching morning was piecing together all of the parts of the city I'd previously visited! Although I found the correct location, I felt too conspicuous with all of the train travellers to search underneath a selection of benches.
Cache #4
At Barrack Street Ferry Port, I quickly found the area of the geocache and after a little searching, finding a water bird enjoying the sun, I found the very official looking cache containing lots of interesting looking goodies inside. I kept a small, wooden ladybird and hoped that I could deposit Kenny here. Again, I prepared him for his journey, photographing him and squishing him into the box. Unfortunately I couldn't then slide the box back into position - it was just too full!
After lunch in the city, I returned home on the bus and crocheted while my phone charged - geocaching really does drain the battery!
Mid-afternoon I decided to visit Cottesloe Beach for the sunset. Being on the West Coast of an Island meant that I could see it set over the sea - it really was magnificent!

More time with the kids, homework and job applications but I did make it to Westfield Whitford City to go to Lincraft and I couldn't resist and trip to Krispy Kreme! In the evening I created obstacle courses for Sophie with amusing results!

Hayden stayed at home feeling poorly today so I helped looked after him for some of the morning before Jo returned home to continue keeping him company. After school, Sophie and I were determined to make it to the correct oval for football (AFL) training after last week's disaster and I was really impressed with how she got stuck in.
Saturday 16th May 2015
The whole weekend was filled with rain, rain, rain and after an early night, I was awake early but I enjoyed a long lie in. I had a very lazy day, watching films, crocheting and reading while the kids were out at clubs and playdates. When Hayden returned home from soccer, we all met at the Myhres where Sophie had spent the afternoon and enjoyed chilli con carne.
After dinner the 5 of us took Sophia and Oscar to an AFL match - West Coast Eagles v Gold Coast Suns at the Domain Stadium, Subiaco. All of the children were excited because this was the first match they had been to and we arrived just after the match had started. I was pouring with rain to start with and we had to sit through a couple of heavy showers and it reminded me of the many soccer matched I've sat through in the UK! The Eagles thrashed the Suns in front a crowd of 26, 964.
The final score was:
Eagles 21 9 135
Suns 6 7 43

Outside, it poured with rain all day so I stayed in the house, alternating between crocheting, reading and watching movies. Sitting around the lounge table, we shared a treat of takeaway curry for dinner - I was delicious. I would even go as far as saying it was the best butter chicken I have ever eaten!

Today was Sophie's turn to take a day off school poorly so I amused her for the beginning of the day, playing Yahtzee and helping with her maths homework. The rest of the morning was spent at Westfield Innaloo (I still think of an igloo!) and on the computer laboriously filling out more job applications. The afternoon was a regular afternoon, collecting Hayden and completing his homework.

This morning I completed even more job applications and I rewarded myself with a trip to Matlida Bay. The car park I planned to use was heaving with cars, I assume with the University of WA over the road that it was student parking and I had to complete a million point turn to squeeze out of a dead end surrounded with cars. I found another parking spot further along the river and walked back along the water and through some bushland to find a geocache. I was sure I'd found the location using the clues and the hint pointed me to exactly where the cache should be hidden, or so I thought! No mint tin though so I disappointingly logged a DNF (Did Not Find) in my Geocaching app.

Before I collected the kids, I went to Leederville, my favourite suburb, for hot chocolate with my book for company.

As it was my day off I took the bus into the city to visit PICA, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. It was a bit 'out there' for me! For lunch I went to Grill'd on St Georges Terrace which was very trendy and full of suited business people. The kitchen staff were rushed off their feet and I switched between reading my book and watching them rush through orders.
Next I went to St George's Cathedral, passing these huge kangaroo sculptures on the way. I inadvertently arrived just in time for a lunch time concert so I listened to some incredibly talented young pianists while I drew the intricate metalwork.

I arrived home to a swarm of boys in the garden! Of course, it was Wednesday again!
Thursday 21st May 2015
We had a false start to the day because we started to walk but just around the corner, Hayden realised he still had his pyjama bottoms on! He'd worn navy jogging bottoms to bed so with a glance I'd thought they were his school tracky bottoms. When he realised and I took a closer look, I noticed they were covered in dirty marks so we had to turn around for him to change!
After a very lazy day, trying to upload photos and watching a DVD, I collected the kids and amused the Myhre kids while Krys advertised an upcoming parents' social. At home I constructed some Lego models with Hayden while Sophie completed her homework.
Friday 22nd May 2015
This morning there was a walk to school initiative and the kids decided to tell me at 7:45 that they needed to be at school early as there was breakfast being provided! With super fast sandwich making we were ready to go but at the front door they declared "We need plates and cutlery!" So now we had to speedily wash the picnic plates from the hamper before racing back out of the door!
The rest of the day was pretty chilled but after school Sophie played in her first Footie match (AFL). To amuse Hayden we kicked a soccer ball around and Jo managed to catch some of the game after work.

As a Friday treat we drove home via the Macca's drive through, the first time I'd aver physically driven through! Exciting times!
Saturday 23rd May 2015
First thing, I took the bus to the State Library of WA to upload photos to earlier blog posts but it ended up being quite a chore because I had to switch between Internet Explorer and Chrome.
After lunch Justin and Hayden dropped Jo, Sophie and I off at the Domain Stadium on their way to soccer practise. Sophie was playing before the Fremantle Dockers v North Melbourne Kangaroos match and had been allocated two tickets. When we arrived I was unsure whether I'd gain access because we didn't know if Sophie would require a ticket so I hovered for a while as Sophie's team mates arrived. In the end Sophie used one ticket which left Jo with a ticket so at this point it didn't look promising but at the last minute, Sophie's coach wangled some more tickets so I was a lucky girl!
While we waited for the games to start, Jo and I headed to the shops in Subiaco before rushing back to see Sophie play in 3 matches. We arrived inside the stadium as the girls were cheerfully warming up and the excitement of being in a huge stadium showed. During the first match the other team were very rough and Sophie got caught up in a couple of harsh tackles, both of which ended up in tears for Sophie. Like a soldier, she battled on after the first but the second was too much and she was substituted. In the end I think the Wembley Magpies won all three of their matches but the scores weren't kept track of.

After a long track around the stadium we watched as the best player of each team was awarded with a prize and when Sophie had re-joined us, we parted ways to find our seats for the big match. Amusingly we ended up at opposite ends of the stadium and it was a good job I wasn't afraid of heights!
The Dockers, in purple, were undefeated this season and were our local team but the Kangas were the team I supported at my very first AFL match so my loyalties were undecided! As the game kicked off I found myself willing North Melbourne to win but was disappointed by the end of the match. Throughout the game the never-ending scoring from the Dockers proved why they was top of the ladder and the scores ended up:
1st quarter
Dockers 5 3 33
Kangas 1 1 7
2nd quarter
Dockers 9 6 62
Kangas 4 4 28
3rd quarter
Dockers 13 11 89
Kangas 5 6 36
4th quarter
Dockers 17 13 115
Kangas 5 12 42
When the match was over I met Sophie and Jo at the gate beneath me, we walked a short way and took the bus the rest of the way home. An end to another awesome day!
A library in the middle of a community is a cross between an emergency exit, a life raft and a festival. They are cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of the imagination. On a cold rainy island, they are the only sheltered public spaces where you are not a consumer, but a citizen instead. - Caitlin Moran
