NB I don't have my old journal down in Sydney with me at the moment so I will go back and add extra details when I'm back in Narangba next week.

So the summer holidays had finally arrived and I couldn't help but think that Austrailian kids are slightly hard done by, having to combine their summer holidays with their Chiristmas holidays but I guess it's just a question of what you're used to. We'd complied a list of things we might like to do during the 3 weeks we'd spend together but face painting before 8am of the first morning certainly wasn't on the list! Nevertheless, I'm quite impressed with what I achieved while I was still bleary eyed and half asleep!

Today brought a day trip to Sea World on the Gold Coast, in Surfers Paradise. After a long drive (I'd been merrily trusting in the Sat Nav and thought it was strange that we ended up driving through the city!) we began to drive through areas I recognised and befire I knew it, we were passing the YHA I'd stayed in back in July. It was a few minutes from there that we entered Sea World after nearly 2 hours in the car. Although I'd been before, it was great visiting with company, especially that of children and we had soon planned out the shows we wanted to see and animals we would visit, starting with the penguins. Hanging around for their feeding time, we were soon aware that if we weren't careful, we'd miss the dolphin show, one of the highlights of our day. Meandering through the park to dolphin cove, we past another penguin enclosure and realised that it was these penguins, not the ones we'd been watching, that had been fed 15 minutes earlier.
In dolphin cove, the echanting creatures dazzled once more, they're such graceful animals, performing impressive tricks with ease. Jumping simultaneously, carrying people on their noses, swimming along side their trainers, I could watch this show over and over again!
With a detour to the seals, we just missed out on the opportunity to feed them but instead we took the monorail around the edge of the park, indulging in a four way selfie as we waited at the platform.
Back at the stop where we climbed aboard, the next visit was to the polar bears. We'd had a bird's eye view of them sprawled on top of a rock from the monorail. This was a much more impressive view than last time I was there but judging by the photo, I'm not conviced Jack was impressed!
Arriving at the walrus sculpture, I encouraged the kids to take a seat but Molly wasn't to be pursuaded, insisting that they have to sit there every time they go!
The jetski show was much the same as last time I went but impressive nonetheless. Next stop was the petting area with antother quick stop for a selfie, I couldn't resist getting the dolphin in!
Finally it was time for the last show of the day, the sea lion show and, along with the dolphin show, it was one of my highlights. Performing as if it were another of the characters, the main sea lion was highly trained and I often forgot than it wasn't a human actor with all of its tricks and actions!

After the fun but tiring day trip yesterday, we had a chilled day at home. Gracie and I creatied paper plate wreaths while Molly laboured over fimo minions with a fierce determination for perfection that doesn't surprise me from her.
It was a sure sign that the temperature was high when Molly joined Gracie and I in the pool - a very rare occurance, also mirrored in the fact that they collaped on their towels in the lounge afterwards when they are usually so good at quickly getting changed!
As it was Jack's birthday the next day, Gracie and I whipped up some chocolate cakes and Molly wasn't going to miss out on the action of licking the bowl out afterwards! Definitly the best part of baking!
